Fantasy Football

WEEK 5 RECAP

Before we get into the Week 6 Waiver Wire Pickups, lets recap week 5 in the NFL. The Browns once again went to OT and actually won! The funniest part about the game was when Hue Jackson, for some reason, held up a number two sign AFTER the field goal kick went through. The game was over and this man was holding up a two sign? Mason Crosby ended up missing not one, not two, not three, not four, but FIVE field goals. (Apologies for having him as a start option, I was way off…no pun intended). Eric Ebron went OFF and believe it or not, he’s actually a top-five TE in fantasy football this year. Panthers kicker, Graham Gano hit a 63-yarder for the game-winning FG against the Giants; just one yard off the NFL distance record! The Chiefs continued their hot start with an impressive win against the Jaguars, despite Mahomes throwing two picks. Their defense had one of the best celebrations of the year, and shockingly put up 20+ fantasy points! Latavius Murray puts up another dud performance as Cook’s backup. Adam Thielen becomes the first WR in the NFL since 1970 to start with five, 100+ yard games. Mark Ingram made his debut and came out looking like a beast, and of course, let’s not forget, Drew Breeees set the NFL record for the most career passing yards.

Whew! What a week of football. Heading into Week 6, the waiver wire is pretty rough though. There aren’t really any sexy pickups or guys you absolutely need to use your number one waiver wire claim on, but there are some nice fill-ins.

WAIVER WIRE PICKUPS

QB – JAMEIS WINSTON, BUCS

I know, I know. You’re probably saying, “Really? Jameis Winston?”. I can’t deny that I LOVE this matchup this week against the Falcons. He might not be someone I’d feel comfortable rolling with on a weekly basis, but with the great weapons he has around him, he’s someone you can plug in confidently on a good matchup.

RB – MIKE DAVIS, SEAHAWKS

Let’s face it, the RB waiver wire is rough to look at. I typically would completely ignore the Seahawks backfield, but if you’re in need of a RB, or need one to stash, Mike Davis is someone I’d pick up. The RB’s are hard to trust Seattle’s offense in general but he’s come off back to back productive weeks and will face Oakland Week 6. As long as he’s starting, he’s worth a spot on your bench if you’re hurting at the position.

RB – COREY CLEMENT, EAGLES

With Jay Ajayi being put on IR, this opens up the door for the Eagles running backs. Truth is, this may very well be a running back by committee moving forward with Darren Sproles, Corey Clement, and Wendall Smallwood. Clement is my favorite out of the group and should be the one to receive the heaviest workload.

WR – KEKE COUTEE, TEXANS

In the past two games, Keke Coutee had 17 receptions, 160 yards, and two touchdowns. In an offense that doesn’t have a solid run game, Keke, along with the Texans receivers are great players to have on your teams. You have missed out on the Keke stakes for those who jumped the gun on him but if he’s available, he’s one of my favorite pickups.

TE – CAMERON BRATE, BUCS

Cameron Brate gets an uptick with OJ Howard being out and him being a target monster with James as QB. He and Jameis are my two favorite streamers of the week, and since tight ends are a dumpster fire, he’s probably the best TE pick up on your waiver wire.
