MIAMI, FL – The Owls struck first, but J’Dah Girigorie was able to keep the door shut all game long. After tying the game, FIU was able to score four runs in the fourth and finish the game on cruise control. The Panthers complete the series sweep with a 5-1 win over Kennesaw State.

Panthers Cruise After Four-Run Fourth
In the fourth, FIU was able to plate a total of four runs. The scoring began with Sammy Zelenka hitting a sac fly, scoring Kendall Catherwood. Next at-bat, Zamya McBurrows reached first on a fielding error from Kennesaw State’s third baseman, scoring Paige Miller.
Kally Meredith made it 4-1 after hitting a double to left center, scoring McKenna Robbins. Meredith scored two runs, knocked down two hits, and stole two bases. She also saw the most action on the field, with a total of seven putouts in center.

Then, Kennedy Byrd made it 5-1 with a double down the left field line, scoring Meredith. Byrd finished with two hits and two RBIs.
Girigorie went the distance, throwing the complete game, allowing five hits, one run, and no walks on three strikeouts. She recorded 12 flyouts and six groundouts. Girigorie’s pitches were on the money; she threw 56 strikes out of 70 pitches. Her record improves to 6-5.
