Four FIU Softball Players Earn All-Conference Honors

With the team currently sitting with a 34-17 (16-11) record, four FIU Softball players have earned All-Conference honors. Kennedy Byrd, Kally Meredith, Janelle Martinez, and Leah Clark each earned recognition in Conference USA.

Kennedy Byrd

Earning All-Conference First Team, Byrd had 32 runs and 51 hits, accounting for a .372 average in 51 games. Kennedy Byrd led the team in many categories, including OPS (1.282), doubles (13), home runs (14), RBI (49), total bases (106), slugging (.774), and walks (40).

She made 15 starts in 19 appearances during the regular season, posting an 8-6 record with a 4.10 ERA, 1.57 WHIP, and 36 strikeouts. In a win against LA Tech (April 12), she recorded a season-high of three hits.

In the season finale against Middle Tennessee (May 2), she drove in a total of four runs. On the mound, she struck out five hitters against Incarnate World (February 22).

Kally Meredith

Meredith improved on last season’s All-Conference Second Team selection by making this year’s First Team. She led FIU in hitting (.456), at-bats (171), runs (53), hits (78), and triples (5). Having played in all 51 games, she also finished second in OPS (1.033), total bases (93), slugging (.544), on-base percentage (.489), and stolen bases (23).

Kally Meredith scored a season-high of three runs in a tournament win over South Dakota (February 28) and three RBI in a victory against UTEP (March 14).

Janelle Martinez

Martinez also got All-Conference First Team honors. She ended the regular season with a .377 average, 25 runs, 60 hits, 12 doubles, 44 RBI, 80 total bases, .503 slugging percentage, .415 on-base percentage, and went a perfect 7/7 on the basepaths.

Janelle Martinez put together a season-high of four hits and four runs against South Dakota (February 28). Against Sam Houston (April 25), she drove in a total of four runs.

Leah Clark

Clark made the All-Conference Second Team. She finished the season hitting with a slash line of .344/.532/.412, 32 runs, 53 hits, six doubles, four triples, five homers, 32 RBI, and a team-leading 28 stolen bases.

Leah Clark’s season got off to a hot start in the opening contest against TACC, where she went 2/3 with a double and a triple. She had a season-high of three hits against Liberty (April 19) and triples with two in a game against Delaware (March 8).
