Jesus Sanchez Walk-Off

Miami, FL – It was a starting pitcher’s duel on the mound today at Loan Depot Park. Both pitchers had solid outings. For the Miami Marlins, Cal Quantrill excelled on the mound. In his five innings of workload, he had a season-high six punch-outs and held batters to just four hits on a single run. Tony Gonsolin was exceptional for the Los Angeles Dodgers as well. Following his season debut against the Marlins last week, he picked up where he left off, striking out eight batters and limiting them to four hits and two runs. In what was a showdown between both the Marlins and Dodgers, this contest ended on one swing of the bat from Jesus Sanchez as he called game thanks to his walk-off hit.

Liam Hicks delivers

Hicks usually isn’t the first player on the roster who opposing pitchers would consider a legitimate threat. However, that doesn’t mean they can just sleep on him.

After being robbed of a home run in his previous t bat, Hicks made sure to not let that affect his approach his next time up. Hicks launched a home run into the Dodgers pen to give the Marlins their first runs of the ballgame.

Looking at his statistics this season, you’ll notice that he usually gets his RBIs sporadically in bunches.

The $700 million man strikes again

For the second game in a row, Shohei Ohtani led off the game with a strikeout. In fact, he struck out in his first two at-bats in today’s game. Don’t let that fool you. Even if he were in the midst of a slump, no pitcher can lose focus on Ohtani.

Ohtani sure did welcome Anthony Veneziano into the game. He wasted no time, swinging at the first pitch that was thrown to him. There was no doubt across anyone’s mind at the ballpark where that baseball was heading.

Freddie Freeman makes history against the Marlins

Freddie Freeman, with his home run last night, tied Ryan Howard and Ryan Zimmerman for the most career home runs against the Marlins. Well, they didn’t stay tied for long as he hit another one tonight to take the lead on that list with his 42nd career home run against Miami.

Freddie Freeman drove in the first run of the game back in the 1st inning after Andy Pages had ripped through a double into right field.

Fish put up a pair of runs to tie things up

In a close game that was slowly starting to tilt in the Dodgers’ favor, the Marlins took that moment away real quick.

Luis Garcia entered the game as a pitching substitution, Agustin Ramirez swung at a high sinker, lining up a line drive double to right field.

Connor Norby stepped up and delivered with a productive at-bat, driving in a crucial run. It was a bold decision by Luis Garcia to throw five consecutive sweepers to Norby. After whiffing at the first and taking the second for a ball, Norby adjusted, fouling off the next two pitches. On the fifth offering, he showed he had figured out Garcia’s rhythm, ripping a sharp double to left field that brought Ramirez home.

Dane Myers then came up to the plate and was able to capitalize on the sweeper as well with a single to center field, scoring Norby.

Jesus Sanchez flips the M!

This game would remain tied heading into extras. After the Dodgers failed to produce any runs with the runner on second, the momentum was on the Marlins’ side to do the job and flip the M.

The bottom of the 10th inning commenced with Xavier Edwards automatically being on second. Kyle Stowers was up and was intentionally walked. In all honesty, it was a surprising move from Dodgers manager Dave Roberts, since Stowers had three strikeouts in the game.

Up next was Agustin Ramirez. He fought off some of J.P. Feyereisen’s pitches but pulled through with a line drive single.

With the bases loaded and no outs, the task for Jesus Sanchez was simple. Just make contact with the ball and put it in play past the infield and the Marlins win the game. Sanchez did not disappoint, perfectly laying out a single into center field.

The Marlins’ 5-4 win tied them with the San Francisco Giants for the MLB lead of five walk-off victories.
