On Wednesday, FIU Men’s Basketball announced the commitment of New Mexico State guard Zawdie Jackson. Jackson has one year of eligibility remaining.

This past season, Jackson was the only New Mexico State player to start in all 32 games. He averaged 10.5 points, 2.3 rebounds, and 3.1 assists. He shot 39.9% from the field and 37.6% from beyond the arc. His three-point percentage and number of assists (99) led the team.

Before his time with the Aggies, the newest Panther was at West Georgia from 2022-24. He finished his career there, averaging 18.5 points, 3.0 rebounds, and 4.8 assists per game. He shot .490 from the field and .406 from the three.

Per the West Georgia website, the 2023-24 season was “one of the greatest individual seasons in UWG Basketball history in 2023-24, as the guard averaged 22.0 points 5.5 assists, 3.0 rebounds, and 1.5 steals per game on 51|45|85 percent shooting splits to lead West Georgia to a 27-6 record, a GSC Regular Season & Tournament Championship.”

At West Georgia, Jackson was named GSC & South Region Player of the Year, First Team All-Region, First Team All-District, and First Team All-American. He became the first player in school history to be named the South Region Player of the Year. He also surpassed 1,000 career points, becoming the sixth player in school history to achieve that milestone in just two seasons.

Jackson marks the second official signing of the new look FIU Panthers. Incoming freshman Thiago Sucatzky is the first. The Panthers are waiting on Cal State Bakersfield transfer Corey Stephenson to become official.
