Marlins Win Triumphant Series Finale Against the Blue Jays

MIAMI, FL – After dropping the first two games of the series against the Blue Jays, the Marlins finally got into the win column. The game was headlined by a solid pitching performance by Eury Perez. Miami had 10 hits in the game with big contributions from Jakob Marsee and Eric Wagaman. The first two games didn’t go in their favor, but the Marlins ended the series on a high note with a win over the Toronto Blue Jays.

Wagaman’s Power Resurgence

The most home runs Eric Wagaman had hit in a month this season were two in April. Coming off an atrocious July, which saw him with zero home runs and one RBI for the month, improvements were imminent.

His solo home run in the third inning was his fourth one in August, and his third in the past six games.

Marsee Magic

It’s not an exaggeration to say Jakob Marsee has had the best start in Miami Marlins franchise history. Marsee only added to that with his performance today. The left-handed bat has provided a big boost to this lineup since his call-up. He contributed with a huge bases-clearing triple in the 5th inning, making it a 4-0 game.

With the bases loaded, anyone in the building felt confident in his abilities to make something happen. Marsee battled through the splitter and four-seamer in the at-bat, fouling off some pitches in the zones. Once he saw that splitter again, he made sure to make it count.

Later in the 7th, he hit his 10th double and ultimately scored.

It’s beyond impressive how, in 23 games, he has already totaled 55 bases with a slash line of .346/.705/1.121.

Eury Perez Dominates on the Mound

For the first time since August 2nd, Eury Perez was able to throw a complete six-inning game.

Perez hit 100 MPH twice in velocity and dominated in the swing & misses category with 18. He gave up three hits and struck out four hitters.

He was cruising until the 7th inning. After giving a hit to Bo Bichette and a free pass to Ty France, Clayton McCullough made the call to the bullpen for Lake Bachar to come in. Daulton Varsho then hit a bases-clearing home run to make it a 4-3 game. Despite getting credited with two earned runs at the end, he was still the player of the game with a +25.1% WPA.

Agustin Ramirez Adds Insurance Run

Agustin Ramirez drove in Marsee in the 7th inning, adding the insurance run Miami needed to make it a 5-3 game. The hit was his only one in the series, but it was an important one. It was Ramirez’s first RBI since August 16.

Tyler Phillips earned his second save of the season thanks to a 1-2-3 inning in the 9th, needing just six pitches to do so.
