MIAMI, FL – The Miami Marlins got their run support early on in this game thanks to Owen Caissie’s double and two home runs from Liam Hicks. The bigger story, though, was Max Meyer throwing a one-hit scoreless extravaganza against the New York Mets.
Owen Caissie and Liam Hicks Drive in Runs
The second inning began with Jakob Marsee taking a four-pitch walk and Connor Norby hitting the first pitch he saw. With both runners on base, a red-hot Caissie came up to the plate and drove them in with a double.

It was his third consecutive game with at least one RBI. His plate discipline and confidence at the plate have noticeably contributed to his recent successes.
Up 2-0, Hicks made it a three-run game with one swing of the bat. His 10th home run of the season left the ballpark at 31 degrees and a total distance of 389 feet.

In his next at-bat, he hit another home run in the fifth. His 11th homer of the season marked the first time in his career that he had a multi-home run game.

Max Meyer Makes Case for All-Star Game Bid
Meyer again showed that he’s been Miami’s most consistent starter all season. Entering the game with a 1.7 WAR, not only has he been Miami’s most reliable pitcher, but he’s also been one of their more reliable players overall.
His progress was already showing as he was averaging 6.9 hits, 0.7 home runs, and 10.1 strikeouts per nine innings. Today, the Woodbury, Minnesota native threw seven innings of one-hit shutout ball, allowing three walks on eight strikeouts. No doubt, this was his most impressive start of the season.
That's a wrap for Max Meyer, who had his most impressive start of the season. The final line:

He struck out four hitters on the sweeper. The pitch was thrown 30 times and saw a 20/10 split against lefties. Meyer had two punchouts on his heater. He relied on it 26 times, and his average velocity was 94.8 MPH. 95.9 was his maximum speed today.
The slider saw 1o swings and 10 called strikes out of his 23 pitches. Two Mets hitters fell victim via strikeout on that pitch. Meyer had a whiff plus called strikes rate of 40% on his sinker. His changeup was thrown six times, all to left-handers.
Max Meyer has now thrown 13.2 consecutive shutout innings, the longest scoreless streak of his major league career. His 2.52 ERA is now amongst the top 10 qualified National League starters.
RHP Max Meyer (5-0) is the third pitcher in Marlins history to not be charged with a loss through 11 starts to begin a season, joining RHP Brad Penny in 2001 and RHP Liván Hernández in 1997.

If the Marlins have pitcher representation at this year’s MLB All-Star game in Philadelphia, then Meyer is certainly making a name for himself. He’s 5-0, and his WHIP stands at 1.05
He matched his career-high of 68 strikeouts, and opponents are batting just .188 against him. Meyer ranks in the top 10 amongst starters in the MLB in these categories.
Anthony Bender Strikes out Three; Andrew Nardi Allows Run
Anthony Bender delivered with 1.1 innings of scoreless baseball. He struck all three hitters he faced in the eighth inning. Bender attacked with a three-pitch mix: sweeper, sinker, and slider.

Andrew Nardi tossed 0.2 innings, allowing the Mets to score a run, and got two hits.
