Panthers Use Samuel Fischer Double to Beat Kennesaw State

Panthers Samuel Fischer Double

FIU Athletics

MIAMI, FL – Preston Prince took care of business on the mound, delivering the longest outing from an FIU starter since Garrett Rukes went the distance on May 1, 2021. The Panthers used a bases-loaded double from Samuel Fischer in the eighth to beat Kennesaw State, 3-2.

Preston Prince Takes Care of Business

Prince arguably had his best start of the season. He did not allow a baserunner until the third inning or a hit until the fifth, staying in control throughout his outing.
Kennesaw State scored a run in the fifth and sixth innings, but that didn’t prevent Prince from prevailing on the mound. He had a season-high in both pitches thrown (106) and innings tossed (7.1). Prince allowed four runs total, with two of them being earned runs, and issued four walks while recording six strikeouts.

Samuel Fischer Hits Bases-Loaded Double

FIU’s hitting was quiet all night until the sixth inning when Andrew Ildefonso hit a home run to left field, his fourth of the season.

Down 2-1, the Panthers had the bags loaded in the eighth and needed a spark to retake the lead. Samuel Fischer was able to provide the Panthers with the tying and insurance run on a two-run double. The hit gave him his 19th RBI on the season.

Bryce Turner made an appearance out of the bullpen and didn’t allow a run in his 0.2 innings of work. Tyrus Riley shut the door in the ninth, earning his first save of the season.

FIU outhit Kennesaw State with 9 hits. Cooper Rasmussen, Ildefonso, and Cole Cleveland each had multi-hit performances. The Panthers went 1-for-1 with the bases loaded and hit .400 with runners in scoring position. Rasmussen’s on-base streak got extended to 19 games. Cleveland is on a three-game multi-hit streak.
