MIAMI, FL – FIU Women’s Basketball exploded on offense in their first home night game. The Panthers shot 58% from the court. This was in large part due Rhema Collins having a 40-point career performance, which propelled FIU towards a 103-92 victory against Georgia State.
What a Game, Rhema Collins
Her previous career-high in points was 19, which occurred twice earlier this season. In the first quarter alone, she scored 21 points.

Collins also posted career highs of 12 rebounds and four assists. She also had three steals and two blocks in the game.
The previous FIU player to score at least 40 points in a game was Alexis Gordon back in 2017. Collins is just the seventh player in program history since 1994 to hit the 40-point mark.
“It feels good. It’s my career high in a college game but like Coach Burks said, it’s stacking those days and paying attention to everything I do and those extra shots. And you know, working with Coach Dan, he said, “you’re gonna hit one.” So, I hit one for him today but just stacking those days and getting the work in.”
Offense Breaks Record
The Panthers scored a season-high 37 points in the 1st quarter and added 26 in the 2nd quarter. At halftime, the 63 points on the board were the most in a first half under Head Coach Jesyka Burks-Wiley. The previous record was 42 in an opening half.

Despite FIU having large lead of 26 in the 3rd quarter, when it was 81-55, Georgia State kept it close in the 4th quarter. GSU kept scoring while FIU went through a five-minute stretch without scoring a field goal. It was a six-point game with 49 seconds left, but FIU ended the game scoring five unanswered points.
The Panthers had four players score in double digits. Parris Atkins has remained consistent, scoring 17 points along with six boards, two assists, and three steals. Grecia Ferrer-Leal scored a career-high of 13 points and totaled five rebounds, three assists, and three steals.
Judit Valero scored in double figures for the first time this season with 12 points, six boards, and three assists. Ndate Ndiaye posted 10 points on 3-of-4 shooting.
“The 103-point effort from FIU was the sixth time in the Burks-Wiley era that they scored in the triple digits.Really, really exciting game. If you’re a fan of offense, it’s hard to not love a game like that. So, really really excited to see we’re able to go pretty deep into our game offensively. Definitely exciting as a coach when you got so many new players and you’re kinda hoping like “hey is that production gonna be possible for us?”…and I’m really excited to see that yeah that is a clip that we have available to us. And definitely look forward to tapping into it a different way as the year goes on.”
