Panthers First Home Sweep

FIU Athletics

MIAMI, FL – Julian Mlodzinski made his 11th appearance in what was his most durable yet effective start of the season. FIU made it count at the plate, hitting .619 in advancement opportunities. With that, the Panthers complete their first home sweep in nearly a year with a 7-1 victory over the Kennesaw State Owls.

Panthers Excel on Advancement Opportunities

The Owls got the first crack on the scoreboard in today’s game, but Mlodzinski delivered in his start. In five innings of work, he threw 75 pitches and forced Kennesaw State into 10 groundouts. Mlodzinski allowed five hits and one run on three strikeouts. He earned his third win and brought his ERA down to 5.82.

The Panthers got the ball rolling on offense in the third. Tracen Cameron and Cooper Rasmussen gave FIU its first hits with back-to-back knocks. Cameron scored on Cole Cleveland’s single, and then Samuel Fischer hit his seventh double of the season, scoring Cleveland.

In the fifth, Rasmussen singled, and Andrew Ildefonso and Cleveland both drew free passes to first. With the bags loaded, Samuel Fischer got hit by a pitch, which hit his knee pretty hard, but he fought it off and jogged to first. Up 3-1, Caden Sammler gave the Panthers another fifth-inning RBI with a walk.

Ildefonso gave the Panthers two more runs in the sixth with his second home run of the series and fourth overall on the season.

Rasmussen hit an RBI single to right field in the seventh, capping off the scoring on the day for FIU. He led the team with three hits and scored twice while extending his on-base streak to 21 games.

Tyrus Riley earned his second save of the season in four innings of work. He allowed just one hit and recorded three punchouts.

The Panthers had 10 hits in the game. Cleveland reached base three times with two hits. Fischer drove in two runners, and Ildefonso scored twice.
