Dameivi Tineo Strikes Out Career-High of 10 in Win Against Mets

Dameivi Tineo Career-High

Jupiter Hammerheads

PORT ST. LUCIE, FL – The bulk of the scoring for the Jupiter Hammerheads in the evening game came on walks, passed balls, and wild pitches. The Single-A club used a three-run in the seventh to give them the edge. Despite getting a no-decision, the spotlight was on Dameivi Tineo, who struck out a career-high of 10 hitters in the 5-4 win against the St. Lucie Mets.

Dameivi Tineo Strikes Out 10; Braulio Salas Gets Win

Tineo controlled the mound for the five innings he was there, surrendering just three hits, a run, and two walks on a career-high of 10 strikeouts.

Despite allowing a Julio Zayas home run in the fourth, he recorded three punchouts in that same inning. No other baserunner got past second in the game on his 83-pitch performance.

Tineo’s ERA dropped to 1.54 after his outing. He started off the season on a rough stretch for the Beloit Sky Carp with a 10.80 ERA in four games and 11.2 innings. However, the change of scenery in Florida has helped. Opponents are hitting .154 off him, and he has a 1.37 WHIP along with 20 strikeouts in 11.2 innings and three starts under his belt.

Salas entered the game in the sixth inning with a 2-1 lead. The Mets capitalized on two runs off a triple from JT Benson and a sac fly from Randy Guzman. Since he initially pitched and gave up the lead, Salas was credited with his second blown save of the season.

Following the rally for the Hammerheads in the seventh inning, Salas came back to the mound. The Mets scored another run on a groundout from Elian Peña. However, that’s all they would get and Salas improved his record to 4-2. He allowed four hits and three runs in two innings.

Patient At-Bats and Aggressive Baserunning

In the top of the second, Emilio Barreras singled and then advanced to second on a balk. After advancing to third on a groundout, he was able to score the first run of the game on a wild pitch.
After the Mets tied the game, the Hammerheads got to work in the fifth, all thanks to Carter Johnson. He was able to get on base with a single.
Then he used his aggressive baserunning to advance to second on a passed ball and to third on a wild pitch. As Marlins prospect Esmil Valencia saw ball four for a walk, the ball got passed St. Lucie’s catcher, causing Johnson to score on the play.
Down 3-2, Jupiter responded big in the seventh. They quickly loaded the bases after a hit by pitch from Victor Ortega, a walk from Julio Henriquez, and a single from Josh Hogue.
Johnson was able to bring in a run with an RBI hit. He finished the game with two hits, a run, and a run batted in. Henriquez scored at the plate on a wild pitch, and then Hogue scored after Andres Valor drew a bases-loaded walk, making it 5-3 at the time.
The Hammerheads went 2/7 with RISP and left seven runners on base with six total hits.
