The No. 2 Duke Blue Devils rolled past FIU in a 4-0 win on Thursday night. The Panthers faced their second top-five team within the last four days, setting up a tough start to the season. The Blue Devils showcased their scoring depth, with Katie Collins, Avery Oder and Mia Minestrella each finding the back of the net to secure the win. This matchup was the first time these two teams have played since 2010, and it resulted in a 0-0 tie.

Once the game got underway, Duke was firing on all cylinders. They notched two goals within the first ten minutes to take an early lead. Katie Collins scored the first goal in the seventh minute, followed by Mia Minstrella just two minutes later. Despite the hot start, the Blue Devils did not let up; they scored two more goals to close the first half and take a commanding 4-0 lead. Duke would put up eight shots to FIU’s zero.
Second Half Defense
The second half was a different story for FIU defensively. They held Duke to no goals despite the Blue Devils putting up 12 second-half shots. Panthers goalkeeper Valery Restrepo was all over the net, finishing the game with two saves. We saw a glimpse of hope when Roxy Brewer had FIU’s first shot attempt go up, but the Blue Devils denied it.
FIU would fall to 0-5-4 all-time vs Duke, with goalkeeper Molly Vepansky earning the team’s first shutout of the year. The Blue Devils move to 2-0-1 in the early season. With the loss, FIU drops to 0-2-1.
Panthers are Back at Home
FIU is back at home on Sunday, August 23, against North Florida. The Ospreys are off to a 1-1 start to the season, with a loss to Georgia Southern and a win against Saint Leo. This will mark the 12th all-time matchup between these two programs, with North Florida winning five of those games. The most recent match took place last season and ended in a 1-1 draw. The game will start at 6:00 pm and can be streamed on ESPN+.
