Adebayo started in all 73 games he appeared in this season and averaged 20.1 points, 10.0 points, 3.2 assists, 1.18 steals and 32.4 minutes, becoming just the third HEAT player to average at least 20 points and 10 rebounds, joining only Alonzo Mourning and Shaquille O’Neal. He led the team in rebounds for a team-record seventh-straight season and recorded 86 steals, marking his fifth-straight year with at least 80 steals, becoming just the fourth player in team history to achieve the feat, joining only Dwyane Wade, Grant Long and Glen Rice. He helped anchor a defense that held opponents to under 100 points 21 times, going 17-4 in those contests, and outrebounded their opponent by double-figures on 14 occasions, recording a perfect 14-0 record over that span. Miami ranked fourth-best defensively with Adebayo on the floor, marking the seventh consecutive season ranked in the top six. He allowed fewer than a point per isolation (0.9) for the seventh-straight season while helping Miami finish fourth in defensive rebounds, seventh in contested shots, eighth in defensive rebound percentage and ninth in opponent field goal percentage as the HEAT outscored their opponents by +191 points. Adebayo passed Udonis Haslem for the most defensive rebounds in franchise history on March 3 and is now just 35 boards short from tying the HEAT’s all-time rebounding record. He posted 35 double-doubles this season and has now recorded at least 30 double-doubles in a franchise-record six-straight seasons, including a 32-point, 21-rebound double-double on March 21, becoming just the second player in team history to post a 20-20 game through three quarters. Additionally, he paired with Kel’el Ware on December 18 to each record at least 12 rebounds and three blocks to become just the third set of HEAT teammates to accomplish the feat in the same game in franchise history.
