BOCA RATON, FL – At first, the FAU Owls had the upper hand in their contest against FIU. In the 2nd quarter, the Panthers found themselves down by nine points. They would come back, and the game was tight going into the final quarter.
The Panthers would then go on an 11-1 run in the 4th quarter to put the nail in the coffin. FIU Women’s Basketball beat FAU 80-63, extending their winning streak to four.
FIU Picks It Up in Second Half
The Owls shot for 53.6% on the court and made half of their 3-pointers in the first half. They entered halftime with a 41-37 lead.

FAU made a buzzer-beating 3-pointer to tie the game at 55 at the end of the penultimate quarter. FIU followed up by going on a 6-1 run to begin the 4th quarter and later went on an 11-1 run to seal the deal.
The Panthers outscored the Owls 25-8 in the final quarter. They also shot for 50% from the floor and 45.5% from behind the arc in the second half. FAU didn’t score a field goal in the last 5:55.

Four Players Score in Double Digits
For a good chunk of the night, FIU trailed the Owls in shooting. But in the end, they were close in field goal percentage. FAU slightly outshot the Panthers, 46-45%. Still, the FIU Panthers had better shooting performances from their players.
Parris Atkins scored 16 points in the first 20 minutes of the game. She finished the night with 20 points, six rebounds, three assists, and three steals.
Rhema Collins had her fifth double-double of the season. She scored 16 points, 11 of which came in the second half. Collins also grabbed 16 rebounds, a career high, and added three assists, two blocks, and two steals.
Denika Lightbourne posted 16 points on 7/9 shooting, along with five rebounds and three steals. Judit Valero notched 13 points, four rebounds, two assists, and two steals. 11 of those points came in the second half. Grecia Ferrer Leal scored 12 points on 5/8 shooting and posted four assists and three steals.

The Road Ahead
FIU Women’s Basketball will host the annual FIU Holiday Classic. They play Youngstown State this Friday, December 19, at 11 AM and Florida Atlantic this Saturday, December 20, at the same time.
