FIU Men’s Soccer (6-3-4, Conf. 1-1-3) finished its contest against the Charlotte 49ers (7-1-4, Conf. 3-0-2) as a draw in a crucial conference matchup. The result moved FIU down to 6th in the American Conference standings and marked the Panthers second consecutive draw.
The Panthers struck first in the opening half. Sergio Perello delivered a ball into the box, finding Santi Possu, who headed it into the back of the net. The goal marked Possu’s ninth of the season, leading all Panthers in scoring. Possu is also tied with Charlotte forward Michael Raggett for the most goals scored in American Conference play.

What’s Next
The Panthers now return home for their final two home matches of the season, beginning with a crucial conference matchup against in-state rival FAU. FIU faced the Owls twice last season, once during the regular season and again in the American Conference Tournament, losing both contests. Despite those losses, the Panthers hold a 15–7–1 advantage in the all-time series. FIU will look to avenge last season’s defeats and secure a victory over its in-state rival Friday night.
The match is scheduled for 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 23, at Leyva Family Field at FIU Soccer Stadium.
