Miami, Florida – The march to Omaha has come to an end as the Miami Hurricanes lose 3-2 to the Louisville Cardinals on game three of the Super Regional. Despite a seemingly miraculous comeback during the regular season that ultimately brought the program within one win of making it to the College World Series, fate had other plans. Miami broke the stalemate in the third when Max Galvin hammered it down the right field line for the early 2-0 lead. However, the hosts responded an inning later. Zion Rose hit an RBI double, knocking in Garret Pike. Rose became the tying run on a fielder’s choice.

Reese Lumpkin got the starting nod for UM, putting up three solid frames before encountering a rough patch. Lumpkin was pulled for Rob Evans, ending his day, allowing two runs on five hits. Evans’ outing was brief as he closed out the fourth and faced two more batters, eventually stepping aside for Will Smith. The right-handed reliever walked two but showed why he’s the best in the bullpen, recording two straight outs to escape the jam. Smith struck out the side for the sixth. The Hurricanes had their bases-loaded opportunity but failed to cash in. Renzo Gonzalez hit into an inning-ending double-play.

Two mistakes in the seventh proved pivotal. With two outs, Jake Munroe singled up the middle and advanced to second on a wild pitch. Michael Torres couldn’t glove Eddie King Jr’s hit, turning out number three into the go-ahead RBI double. Down 3-2 in the eighth, Miami went deep twice, coming up short each time. Torres could have redeemed himself in the ninth with two on and one out, but the at-bat saw him chase balls out of the zone. He struck out looking on the payoff pitch. Jake Ogden, UM’s final hope, popped out to center field in a drive that just wasn’t long enough. Louisville returns to Omaha for the first time since 2019. The Cardiac Canes’ drought, meanwhile, continues.

The magical postseason run is over. What a ride. A roller coaster of emotions throughout the regular season, covering a whole range of ups and downs. To recap the 2025 campaign, the Hurricanes played through a brutal part of the schedule that included back-to-back-to-back ranked opponents. Miami went 4-11 in that span, losing five consecutive weekend series. The Canes were 3-2 in midweek matchups and 7-13 overall. By April, the program was staring at its second consecutive losing season. Then they turned it around, winning 10 straight conference games, claiming five weekends in a row. The turnaround was so dramatic that the Hurricanes were lined up for a double-bye in the ACC Championship and were a dark horse for the conference regular season title.
UM had seemingly secured itself a regional. They came crashing back down to earth, losing six of their last seven, including a first-round run-rule exit to California in the ACC tournament. Confidence waned, and the team was on the bubble. Despite this, the committee deemed them worthy, sending the Miami Mashers to Hattiesburg. Few had them advancing. I didn’t either. Yet they defeated Alabama, Columbia, and the hosts, Southern Miss. They were so close to punching their ticket to Omaha. I tip my cap off to Louisville, and I look forward to 2026. The Hurricanes are already making moves with the acquisition of FIU’s Brylan West via the transfer portal that occurred last weekend. Lastly, it was a pleasure covering Hurricanes baseball, witnessing their triumphs both on an individual level and as a team. This was my eighth season covering the program, and I can’t wait to see what happens for the ninth. Until then, stay frosty folks. See you next spring.
