ODDS – Florida International -10
The Panthers are back home to start the second half of the 2026 season. Both FIU and MTSU enter at 3-3 overall and 1-1 in conference play. The stakes are rising as this matchup offers a major opportunity for either team to gain ground in the standings.
FIU, who’s currently undefeated at home, will look to defend Pitbull Stadium. They are coming off a tough 27-24 road loss at Jacksonville State, where penalties ultimately cost them the game.

Middle Tennessee travels to Miami, hoping to carry the momentum from a narrow 33-30 victory over Delaware into its toughest road test of the CUSA season.
Can MTSU Establish a Running Game?
Antonio Martin Jr. has been an important piece of the Blue Raiders’ offense. The running back has 433 yards through six games, averaging 72.17 yards per contest and 5.35 yards per carry. He has shown he can get consistent yardage, recording three 100-yard rushing performances. His dependability could allow the Panthers to focus on the line of scrimmage.
If Martin Jr. explodes, he will certainly open doors for quarterback Roman Gagliano. He has thrown for 1,204 yards and 11 touchdowns, while recording just two interceptions. Gagliano can identify defensive coverages, make quick decisions, and avoid costly mistakes. FIU’s defense poses a threat, though, averaging just 14.7 points per game.
Cam’ron Lacy can also be a threat. The wide receiver leads Middle Tennessee with 35 catches for 369 yards and four touchdowns. Ultimately, this offense’s foundation starts with its running game. If Martin Jr. is consistent on early downs and moves the chains in short-yardage plays, then their offense will create opportunities to control the tempo.
FIU’s Improved Rushing Attack
The Panthers can exploit a weakness in the Blue Raiders’ defense. MTSU is allowing 199.2 rushing yards per game, ranking near the bottom of Conference USA. Devonte Lyons will make his first start, and he has rushed for at least 70 yards in his last two games while averaging 5.2 yards per carry.
Willie Simmons says Devonte Lyons has earned the starting running back job after an uptick in production over the last two games.
151 rushing yards and one touchdown on 26 carries in those two games.

As a team, the Panthers have had three consecutive games with at least 100 yards. Lyons has contributed to this success, recording 73 yards and a touchdown against Jax State. FIU has found a productive formula heading into this matchup against Middle Tennessee.
Expect the Panthers to establish their running game early to test MTSU’s ability to close lanes and make tackles. This will help FIU control ball possession, create manageable third downs, and open opportunities for play-action passes. Maguire Anderson will be another player to watch in hopes of creating separation and making downfield plays. He has 534 receiving yards after scoring two touchdowns last week.
Panthers Have a Tough Defense
Despite the Blue Raiders rostering some offensive threats, FIU’s defense has been a big storyline in Conference USA this season. The Panthers currently have the ninth-best defense in the country, allowing 266 yards per game, 4.48 yards per play, and just seven total touchdowns.
Against MTSU, they will have to limit Gagliano’s production. If FIU can stop first-down runs, then they will have more chances to disrupt the timing of his passing game. The Blue Raiders can make plays, but they haven’t done so consistently this season. A long run or completion can change field position, but it means nothing if they can’t finish drives.
Who Will Win – FIU or Middle Tennessee?
The Blue Raiders are 14-7 all-time in the series, but the Panthers have won the previous two meetings. FIU convincingly beat Middle Tennessee 56-30 on November 8, 2025. The home team has won 14 of the 21 games between these programs. This game could be one of the more competitive matchups on the Conference USA schedule this year, with both teams capable of winning.
However, FIU has the more matchup. Their defense has been consistent, and its ability to stop the run will determine if MTSU can sustain drives. On the flip side, FIU’s recent rushing improvement lines up well against a Blue Raider defense that has struggled to stop the run.
While the Panthers haven’t lost at home, the Blue Raiders are looking for their first road victory this season. FIU has shown it can handle tight matchups, even when their offense has struggled to complete drives. They can’t waste scoring chances or let Middle Tennessee have short fields through turnovers.
