Miami, Florida – The Miami Hurricanes avenged their previous trip to Death Valley, thumping the Clemson Tigers 41-13 Saturday night. Mark Fletcher Jr. returned after missing Week 4, rushing for 77 yards and two touchdowns. Darian Mensah led the air raid, completing 18 of 27 passes for 227 yards and a TD, adding another on the ground. Meanwhile, the Miami defense stifled Clemson, holding them to 55 rushing yards and racking up six sacks. Damon Wilson II recorded three tackles, 2.5 sacks, and a quarterback hurry, while JJ Dunnigan sealed it with a late-game pick-six. It’s the Hurricanes’ largest margin of victory against the Tigers since 1953.

Cooper Barkate opened the scoring with a 61-yard touchdown reception, slipping past the defenders for his fourth TD of the season. Barkate finished the night hauling in five catches for 98 yards. Mensah seemingly fumbled late in the first quarter, which could’ve resulted in a defensive TD, but the call was overturned and ruled a forward pass. He did fumble in the second quarter when scrambling for the 34-yard touchdown, losing control of the ball at the two-yard line. Fortunately for the Canes, a good bounce allowed him to recover it in the end zone.

Omar Thornton produced a big sack during the quarter, helping shut down a drive that ventured into Miami’s territory. Thornton led the Hurricanes in tackles (7) and added a QB hurry. UM tacked three more before the half courtesy of Ahmad Moten Sr., Herbert Scroggins III, and Wilson. Marquise Lightfoot recorded the team’s first sack, knocking over a defender to reach Tait Reynolds. Lightfoot later exited the game with an injury. Miami led 17-6 at halftime. Jake Weinberg was active, hitting a 50-yard field goal in the first quarter and a 24-yarder in the fourth.
It's true, @DarianMensah can really do it all 👋

Fletcher broke loose in the second half, scoring both his TDs as the Hurricanes forced two crucial turnovers. The Tigers attempted a trick play with a direct snap to the running back, but were stopped just short of the first down. Up 24-6, Moten striped the ball late in the third quarter, marking the beginning of the end for Clemson. UM improves to 5-0 (3-0, ACC) and will take next week off. They’ll host Florida State in Week 7.

Impressions
This was a good win even if this isn’t the Clemson of past years. Clemson’s running game didn’t factor, and neither did the weather. Sure, the Canes gave up 350 yards of total offense, but the scoreboard is where it counts. Miami dominated time of possession in the second half (19:58 to 9:57) and generated 10 points off turnovers. On third-down conversions, the Tigers went 8-for-18 and committed 10 penalties that cost them 91 yards. If Reynolds hadn’t done his best to evade defenders, the Hurricanes could have finished with 10 sacks. The game was not perfect despite the score. Miami was 4-for-11 on third down and committed six penalties. There were several instances of missed tackles. On the injury front, Lightfoot’s status remains unknown.
RELENTLESS PRESSURE 😤

Malachi Toney was stifled for the first time this season, held to 40 yards. It did allow Mensah to spread the ball. Daylyn Upshaw had three catches for 39 yards. Elija Lofton also had three for 34 yards. Javian Mallory alternated with Fletcher, recording 14 carries for 63 yards. He’s steadily showing he’s the future. Now the Hurricanes rest. They certainly need it.
