CORAL GABLES, FL –  Hurricanes blow through Boston College 76–54 at home to improve to 23-6 on the season with two games left to go. UM stepped on their home floor, ready to defend anything that came their way. A 14-2 home record this season, the Canes had high expectations this afternoon, coming in as -15.5 point favorites. Boston College traveled to Coral Gables fresh off ending an 8-game losing skid vs Wake Forest and were hungry for more.

A Hurricane Starts To Brew

The start of this game was not what the final score showed. Boston College would get ahead by 7 after the first five minutes of play, 13-6. However, a Hurricane would start to brew, and UM would finish the half outscoring BC 30-6. Tre Donaldson brought the Canes to a 36-19 lead entering the locker room. Boston College has struggled this season from behind the arc, sitting last in their conference in 3pt percentage (30%). By the halftime buzzer, the Eagles sat right at 30%, but, more importantly, struggled on the floor, shooting just 37%.

With Virginia losing earlier today to Duke, UM could have the opportunity to close the gap for second place in the ACC with a win. With a commanding 15-point lead, the odds seemed to be heavily in their favor to close out the second half. BC has only won one game this year on the road, and the chances of a second win were fading away.

Eagles Get Swept In The Hurricane

Once the second half got underway, UM started to really run away with the lead. Ernest Udeh Jr anchored down the defense with 12 rebounds, 3 steals, and 3 blocks by the game’s end. Boston College would see itself down by 27 points with just 2 minutes to go in the game. Ultimately, the Hurricanes’ defense was to much for the Eagles and walked away with win number 23 on the season.

Struggling to find the 3-ball all season, the Eagles would end this game shooting 23% on 22 attempts behind the arc. BC sits last in the conference in FG% and Points per game, and today was unfortunately the same story. Boston College falls to 1-9 on the road and 10-19 on the season and will face Virginia Tech in their next contest.

UM continues to defend their home floor, refusing to let up on anyone, earning their 15th home victory. Their next matchup will be on the road to face ACC conference foe, SMU in Dallas, Texas. With two games left, the Canes look to reach 25 wins for the first time since the 2021-2022 season.

Updated 3/2/26*

The new AP Top 25 was released on Monday, and UM finally got the nod in the top 25. For the first time this year, they were ranked in the top #25 (#22), and quite frankly was long overdue. Closing out the month of February with a 6-1 record, with their only loss coming on the road vs Virginia 86-83. Canes will look to finish out the year strong with just a few games left before tournament play begins.
