Miami, FLOne bad inning sunk the Miami Hurricanes, stumbling 8-1 to the Louisville Cardinals in the first game of the Super Regional. AJ Ciscar did not get past the third inning, giving up seven runs (six earned) on seven hits. The Cardinals scored all of their runs during the first half of the contest while restraining the Canes’ hitting. After a smooth first, Ciscar gave up back-to-back homers to start the second. UM loaded the bases in the third. Renzo Gonzalez plated Daniel Cuvet on a sac fly to make it 2-1, however, Tanner Smith struck out, limiting the rally. Louisville would succeed where Miami failed. Ciscar retired the first batter but surrendered a double, followed by a walk and then a hit-by-pitch.

An error by the pitcher cost the Hurricanes two runs. Jake Munroe seized the moment, hammering a three-run blast to left field. The Red Birds recorded two more hits before coach J.D. Arteaga finally pulled the starter. Jake Dorn cleaned up, although the damage doomed the Cardiac Canes. Max Galvin was the only UM player with a multi-hit game, going 3-for-5, including two doubles and a steal. Miami went an eye-opening 0-for-11 with runners in scoring position. The Cardinals lead the series 1-0, a win away from advancing to Omaha.

Impressions

It was an all-around terrible game for the Miami Hurricanes during the super regional, from pitching to offense to coaching. Even Danny Dingers went hitless. Galvin was the lone bright spot. Fortunately for the team, this is a best-of-three series. It’s do or die on Saturday. Win and they stay in, forcing the decider on Sunday. Griffin Hugus will be on the mound giving the Canes the best shot at evening the series. Let’s see what happens.
