Miami, Florida – The Miami Hurricanes took care of business and left no doubt, dominating the Pitt Panthers 38-7 to finish 10-2 for the second straight year. UM overcame the cold climate and a hostile crowd, capping off their regular season by winning four in a row. The victory over No. 22 Pittsburgh allowed the Canes to add their fourth-ranked win to the resume, although they still need some help to either advance to the postseason as an at-large bid or get themselves to the ACC Championship.
We're thankful trick plays exist.

Miami punted on its first drive, but ended up scoring on its next five possessions while suffocating Mason Heintschel and the opposing offense. Carter Davis literally kicked things off with a 29-yard field goal. Heintschel responded by marching his team down the field, aided by a 40-yard deep ball to Cataurus Hicks, ultimately completing a six-yard touchdown pass to Justin Holmes. They never scored again. Miami countered on its next series. Carson Beck connected with Malachi Toney for the 19-yard gain, followed by Girard Pringle Jr. rushing up the middle twice for a combined 12 yards. It culminated in a trick play as Toney hit Elija Lofton for the go-ahead TD. Pringle totaled 82 yards on 10 carries by day’s end.

The Cardiac Canes landed the knockout blow in the third quarter. In addition to Mark Fletcher Jr’s four-yard rushing TD, Beck tossed one to CharMar Brown for the dagger. CJ Daniels added to the tally with a 33-yard touchdown reception with less than a minute to go in regulation. Beck completed 23 of 29 passes for 267 yards, three TDs, and an interception. Toney, meanwhile, caused havoc up and down the field, recording 13 catches for 126 yards. Conversely, the Panthers were held to 229 total yards, including 30 on the ground. Pitt was also 4-for-13 on third down as Heintschel got sacked four times and was picked off by Bryce Fitzgerald.

Final Thoughts
The fellas got it done. They needed to win out, and now it’s the painful waiting game of score watching followed by the committee’s decision. Remember that the conference championships need to conclude before the CFP field is finalized. The loss to SMU is not as damaging as it was before. However, the Canes are aware that the path is a potentially difficult one. Regardless of the outcome, I am proud of the team. The defense’s progress is night and day compared to last year. Keionte Scott, Wesley Bissainthe, Rueben Bain Jr., Akheem Mesidor, and OJ Frederique Jr. are some of the standouts. The offense remained competitive, driven by a deep running back unit and a freshman sensation named Malachi Toney, led by Carson Beck himself. Although the team shouldn’t have lost at all, it is what it is. Stay frosty, my friends, and keep the faith.
