The Panthers came out quick, putting early pressure on the Ospreys. They would eventually tie the game within the opening minutes of the second half. True freshman Madeline Oliver notched her first Panther and career goal. Defensively, FIU held the Ospreys to just two second-half shot attempts.
With four minutes left, Oliver was dealt a red card, leading to her exit. The Panthers played down a player to close out the game, but still held off UNF’s corner kick attempt. Goalie Valery Restrepo was tested a few times, but made her mark with a diving save as time expired. Restrepo finished the match with one save, which came in those closing minutes of the match.
What Is Ahead For FIU
FIU is still searching for its first win of the year after moving to 0-2-2 for the season. They will have another Florida matchup when they travel to Fort Myers to face Florida Gulf Coast on August 27th. FGCU will be coming off an impressive 3-2 win vs the LSU Tigers as they improved to 2-1-1.
