Securing second place, FIU has set the tone early in the 2025 Conference USA preseason poll.
They sit just behind the Liberty Flames, whom the Panthers beat in the conference championship this past season. Now, entering the 2025 season, expectations are high as they look to defend their title and make an even deeper run in tournament play.

Panthers 2025 Schedule Preview
The Panthers’ 2025 schedule presents both opportunities and challenges. It features eight non-conference opponents and eight conference games on the calendar. Some of the early-season matchups are going to be tough with powerhouses like Florida State and in-state rival Florida Atlantic.
Both teams will test FIU’s determination and provide a test for how they can stack up nationally. The most anticipated matchup comes on October 5th, where they will face the team ranked above them – the Liberty Flames.

A Star in the Net – Valery Restrepo
One of the reasons for optimism is goalkeeper Valery Restrepo, who was honored as the only Panther named to the CUSA Preseason All-Conference Team. Restrepo was an impenetrable force in goal last season, leading the conference with eight shutouts and posting a 0.78 goals-against average.
Her ability to control the defense and make key saves was integral to FIU’s championship victory. Looking to build off of last season’s success under the goalpost, the Panthers will lean heavily on Valery’s experience and knack for the ball in 2025.
Taking on the Challenge
The Panthers’ 2nd place preseason ranking is a reward for past success and presents a challenge to get back the number one spot. However, fans and players know that these rankings mean nothing when both teams take the field to face off. With FIU’s momentum, talent, and leadership, they are well-positioned for a deep tournament run.
Restrepo guarding the net, a talented recruiting class, and a coaching staff committed to excellence, the 2025 FIU Panthers are ready. The countdown to kickoff is on, and all eyes will be on the Panthers to see if they can defend their crown and continue their rise in women’s college soccer.
