It was the fourth meeting all-time between FIU and Creighton. The first head-to-head matchup in 1991 resulted in a 4-1 FIU victory. The next two meetings in 1992 and 1998 ended in Creighton victories. Having won their first season-opening game in two years, the Panthers were seeking to even things up against the Bluejays while also starting the 2025 campaign 2-0.
FIU was strong during the 1st half until a lightning delay paused the game with just minutes left in the period. Still, the Panthers dominated the rest of the half, but then cooled off once the next period began. Then, fouls started piling up for FIU Men’s Soccer, and Creighton gained possession time, resulting in a 1-1 draw.
Time of Clock Advantage for Panthers
The Panthers dominated the first half on offense. They kept the ball on their side for longer periods than Creighton and made some solid passes. At the 11th minute, they came in attacking the net. Johan Helan made a shot, which was blocked, and then came Scott Neil, who kicked the ball at the top center of the goal, putting FIU up 1-nil. The Barry University transfer has already put up five points for the Panthers in his first two games.

FIU was hungry for more. With that early goal, they were poised to add additional ones in the 1st half. The Panthers dominated the shots category 8-1, half an hour into the game. Then, an hour-long weather delay impacted the game.
Yellow Card, Red Card
It wasn’t a smooth sailing game without the yellow and red cards. Defender Owen Travis was the first player for FIU to be called for unsportsmanlike conduct early on in the game and was then visibly upset when ejected. Midfielder Mathys Lefebvre was given the yellow card for unsportsmanlike conduct at the tail end of the 1st half. Both players received their red cards within three minutes of each other in the 2nd half.
For Creighton, Andrija Savic was handed a yellow card for unsporting behavior in the first period and was then given a red card for the same misconduct in the 82nd minute, but it didn’t make a difference as FIU seemed out of it already.
Two-Man Advantage for the Jays
It took all but 46 seconds for Creighton Men’s Soccer to reap the rewards of having a two-man advantage on the pitch. Miguel Arilla was no doubt the player of the game. His golazo at the 63rd minute was scored on the top right of the goal off his right foot, assisted by Todd Vromant. Aside from the goal, Arilla finished the night with four shots, two of them being on goal.

Creighton was looking more confident on the field, and it came to reflection once they scored. They outshot FIU 7-1 in the 2nd half.
FIU ended up getting outshot 11-10 and losing the shots on goal battle 4-2. Even with fewer fouls, the red cards still came to haunt them.
