MIAMI, FL –Β FIU Athletic Director Scott Carr has received a three-year extension. The deal is expected to total $400,000 for Carr, with his new contract set to expire in November 2028. The news was first reported by the Miami Herald earlier today.
The move comes as FIU Football is one win away from reaching its first bowl game since 2019. The team is led by head coach Willie Simmons, one of Carr’s most recent hires. With a 5-5 record, he’s already won more games in his first season than any season during the coaching tenure of Mike MacIntyre, Carr’s first hire as the AD.
Noticeable Progress For FIU Athletics
Aside from just football, FIU Athletics has steadily grown during his time as the Athletic Director. The Panthers have eight conference championships across numerous sports. These include Men’s & Women’s Soccer, Tennis, and Swimming & Diving.
Off the field, his contributions have been numerous. From an academic standpoint, the Panthers have never posted greater cumulative GPAs. In the 2023-24 academic season, they posted a 3.44 GPA – a program record.

In addition, Carr led the way for extending naming rights for the Ocean Bank Convocation Center, the home of FIU Basketball and Volleyball. He also helped form a deal with Kia and Mr. 305 to give FIU’s football stadium one of the most unique names in all of sports – South Dade Kia Field at Pitbull Stadium.
It’s not just naming rights. Both venues have also received significant upgrades, including improvements to Pitbull Stadium’s locker room and the OBCC’s weight room. FIU’s softball stadium also received new dugouts, and the tennis courts were completely overhauled ahead of the 2024 Conference USA Tournament.
A Gainesville native, Carr was hired at FIU back in December 2021, following an Interim Athletic Director role at UCF. He replaced former AD Pete Garcia, who had been with the Panthers since 2006.
