FIU Volleyball Sweeps Sam Houston, Prepares For Delaware

FIU Volleyball is coming off a road sweep against the Sam Houston State Bearkats in seven sets with a combined score of 6-1.

The FIU Player Of The Week has to be Senior Middle Blocker Magda Stambrowska. She tallied an ace, eight blocks, and 22 kills. She helped rally the Panthers as the team earned their first road conference sweep.

Looking Ahead…

Looking ahead, the Panthers are set to host the Blue Hens of Delaware. UD is heading into this series on a tear, having won four games in a row and looking to win their fifth and sixth.

FIU is in a four-way tie with UD and two other teams in Conference USA standings. A series win could really help the Panthers get ahead of the Blue Hens and secure the early #2 seed. Big names to look for in this series are Anna Logan Gillen for the Blue Hens and Mandi Morioka for the Panthers.

Anna Logan Gillen has had a great start to her Junior season, earning Preseason All-Conference First Honors, and combined with her staggering 189 kills and 34 blocks on the season. If FIU is going to win this game, they need to limit Gillen’s impact in this series.

On the other side of the net, the Panthers will need to allow Senior Libero Mandi Morioka to make her mark. Mandi has recorded 298 digs, 66 spikes, and 70 assists. Morioka also earned first-team Preseason All-Conference honors. Morioka’s leadership will be a pivotal piece in the FIU’s keys to victory.

My Predictions

I think FIU will be able to hold off the Blue Hens and keep their home conference record perfect.
