Ahead of Fall practices later this week, the QB1 for the FIU Panthers has received another accommodation. Keyone Jenkins has been selected to the 2025 Maxwell Award Watch List, as announced by the Maxwell Football Club. This award is awarded annually to college football’s player of the year, as determined by the club.
The award has been handed out since 1937. It’s named after Robert “Tiny” Maxwell, an official, sportswriter, and former player. 80 players across FBS are named to this list annually. Jenkins is one of 14 players not in a Power Conference to be named to the list this time around.
Being selected to this watch list is considered a big honor. Past winners of the award include Caleb Williams, Tua Tagovailoa, Derrick Henry, Cam Newton, and Tim Tebow. Last year’s winner was Ashton Jeanty, the record-breaking running back from Boise State – now a member of the Las Vegas Raiders.
Nothing Unusual For Lyghtz
You can add this to the list of preseason accolades for Jenkins, which also includes the 2025 All-CUSA Preseason Second Team for Phil Steele and Athlon Sports, alongside being named the 2025 CUSA Preseason Offensive Player of the Year. In terms of Conference USA, Western Kentucky quarterback Maverick McIvor also made the list.
Semifinalists for the Maxwell Award will be announced on November 11th. The three finalists for the award will be named on November 25th. The winner of the Maxwell Award will be announced during the ESPN Home Depot College Football Awards Show on December 11th. Finally, the formal presentation of the award will be in Atlanta on Friday, March 13th, 2026.
