Chase Stadium- The Herons were crowned Eastern Conference Champions on Saturday night after their 5–1 shellacking of the NYCFC Pigeons. Tadeo Allende delivered a spectacular hat trick for Miami, with youngsters Mateo Silvetti and Telasco Segovia each adding a goal. Justin Haak scored the lone goal for NYC.

Starting XI

Mascherano sent out the same eleven that defeated Cincinnati 4–0 in the Eastern Conference Semifinal to face NYCFC. Ríos Novo started in goal, with Alba, Allen, Falcón, and Weigandt forming the back line. Busquets, De Paul, Rodríguez, and Allende patrolled the midfield, while Lionel Messi and Mateo Silvetti led the attack up front.

Match Action

The Pigeons came out aggressive and physical against Miami, but Tadeo Allende struck first, blasting a right-footed rocket past Matt Freese in the 14th minute. Sergio Busquets ignited the play with a gorgeous long ball over the NYCFC back line, and Allende used his strength and pace to create space and fire home the opener.

The goal ignited the Herons, and Allende doubled Miami’s lead less than ten minutes later with a thunderous header off a scintillating Jordi Alba cross into the box.

Justin Haak gave NY a glimmer of hope in the 37th minute with a hammering header past Ríos Novo to cut Miami’s lead to 2–1 right before the half.

The Pigeons were giving Miami a run for their money, and at halftime, the game was still within reach for NYCFC. Unfortunately for New York, things would quickly begin to unravel in the second half.

Surrounded by a flock of Pigeons in the NY box, Lionel Messi found an unmarked Mateo Silvetti, who controlled and blasted the ball past Freese to make it 3-1 in the 67th minute. The goal gave Inter Miami much-needed breathing room and halted New York’s growing momentum.

Telasco Segovia put the nail in the coffin with a masterful counterattack aided by Jordi Alba. After receiving a pass in space from Lionel Messi, Segovia charged forward with Alba trailing. Inside the box, Segovia slipped a short pass to Jordi, who backheeled it right back to him, setting up a smooth corner finish for the 4-1 lead in the 83rd minute. The Pigeons were cooked.

Allende was not done on the night; a hat trick was on his mind. Yannick Bright filtered a wonderful through ball for Allende, who finished with a cheeky chip for the final 5-1 scoreline. The Herons dispatched the Pigeons and are headed to the MLS Cup Final.

Postgame

Javier Mascherano:

We’re on the verge of playing the game we dreamed of at the start of the season—the last game of the year, the final, at home, and in front of our fans

Inter Miami CF has everything in its favor for the MLS Cup: home-field advantage, a healthy squad, and key players peaking at the right moment. The Herons have the chance to give legends Sergio Busquets and Jordi Alba a fitting farewell with a final trophy in their careers. Saturday afternoon could be a historic sendoff at Chase Stadium. Inter Miami is ready to bring a championship home to Miami.

Final Thoughts

Tadeo Allende is on a historic run during the 2025 MLS Playoffs, tying the record for goals scored (8) and with the chance to break it in the Final. Allende has been one of Miami’s great stories this season, navigating highs and lows while maintaining a positive attitude throughout. Now, he stands on the verge of making history while winning a championship.

Javier Mascherano has faced heavy criticism since being appointed head coach of Inter Miami. Fans and pundits called for his removal multiple times during the season, and now he is just one win away from becoming a champion in his first year at the helm. Both Mascherano and Tadeo Allende are one victory away from completing remarkable redemption stories.

The Herons are just one win away from sending their fans into ecstasy while leaving the rest of MLS miserable. It would be a satisfying redemption after last season’s disappointing finish.
