Estadio Alejandro Villanueva — Inter Miami CF opened its “Champions Tour” with an ugly 3–0 defeat against Alianza Lima in Peru, the first stop of the club’s international preseason tour. Paolo Guerrero led the way for Alianza with a brace, while Luis Ramos added the third goal. The Herons never took flight and looked predictably rusty throughout the match.

Starting XI

Newly acquired Dayne St. Clair started in goal for the Herons, with Sergio Reguilón, Noah Allen, Maximiliano Falcón, and Ian Fray forming the back line. Yannick Bright, Rodrigo De Paul, Mateo Silvetti, and Telasco Segovia anchored the midfield, while Lionel Messi and Luis Suárez led the attack.

Match Action

Peruvian futbol legend, Paolo Guerrero, put Alianza Lima on top 1-0 in the 29th minute with an opportune header after a Dayne St. Clair blocked shot.

Guerrero doubled Alianza’s lead with a well-placed shot into the left corner of the Inter Miami net. The Peruvian squad led 2-0 after 35 minutes.

Luis Ramos closed the curtains on Miami with Alianza’s 3rd goal in the 72nd minute. The Herons never caught flight in Peru.

The Good, The Bad, & The Ugly

Lionel Messi appeared to be in excellent shape in Miami’s preseason opener — the good. Much of the rest of the squad looked predictably rusty — the bad. Sergio Reguilón went down in pain after a hard challenge from an Alianza player and did not return — the ugly. For now, Miami can only hope for the best while preparing for the worst regarding Reguilón’s status.

Final Thoughts

Inter Miami CF fell 3–0 to a strong Alianza Lima side in Peru in its preseason opener, but there is no reason to panic or sound the alarm. One team is gearing up for the start of its regular season while the other is just beginning preparations, and the difference was evident on the pitch. Give the Herons time to shake off the rust and come together as a unit.

Dayne St. Clair, David Ayala, Facundo Mura, and Sergio Reguilón all logged their first minutes for the Herons and turned in solid performances. Reguilón was the lone concern after suffering an injury that forced him out of the match. Academy standout Alexander Shaw also made his debut for the Herons.

Atlético Nacional is next on Inter Miami’s preseason schedule, as the club travels to Medellín to face the Colombian powerhouse known as El Rey de Copas. Expect less rust and a sharper performance from Miami. Results matter little in preseason, but avoiding injuries and fine-tuning ahead of a long regular season are the priorities.
